Sadhanas

Sadhana is a sanskrit word that is used in the yogic tradition to refer to any spiritual exercise that is aimed at progressing the practitioner towards his or her liberation (freedom from suffering).

A formula for growth that I learned in my retreats in India is the following:

Teaching + Direct Experience = Growth/Self-Transformation

Most profound teachings are only understood conceptually. There is no growth or transformation that occurs for the student/practitioner. However, when a teaching is given and is coupled with a direct experience, the practitioner can experience the teaching as a living reality. This is leads to growth/transformation.

Each week, a teaching will be given aimed to helping you grow into a more joyful and loving version of you. Throughout the week, your sadhana, or practice, will be to bring that teaching into your daily life and see for yourself if the teaching is true in your experience. By having a direct experience of the teaching, you are able to embody the teaching and grow from it.
